Di seguito, le parole del Maestro Barenboim che  prima di iniziare a dirigere la Valchiria di Wagner, per l’inaugurazione della stagione al Teatro alla Scala, ha letto l’articolo 9 della Costituzione Italiana in segno di protesta per i tagli alla cultura.

”La Repubblica promuove lo sviluppo della cultura e la ricerca scientifica e tecnica. Tutela il paesaggio e il patrimonio storico e artistico della nazione.”

In May 2008, I read a review of ”The myths of Innovation” by Scott Berkun. The review seems to have vanished from the web, but I noted it in diary. These words should be framed on the wall of every politician and administrator. Here are some quotations.

“One myth that will disappoint most businesses is the idea that innovation can be managed. Actually, Berkun calls this one ‘Your boss knows more about innovation than you’. After all, he says, many people get their best ideas while they’re wandering in their bathrobes, filled coffee mug in hand, from the kitchen to their home PC on a day off rather than sitting in a cubicle in a suit during working hours. But professional managers can’t help it: their job is to control every variable as much as possible, and that includes innovation.”

“Creation is sloppy; discovery is messy; exploration is dangerous. What’s a manager to do?
The answer in general is to encourage curiosity and accept failure. Lots of failure.”

All’interno del Politecnico, anche tra i docenti, la discussione sulla riforma universitaria continua. Di seguito un frammento di un messaggio del prof Luca Marescotti che per lucidità chiarezza e poesia riporto in modo che possa essere fruito anche dagli studenti.

[...] E poi, vedete, non credo che nell’insieme di tutti questi possibili crimini compiuti [dall'Università, ndr], possiamo mai raggiungere altre vette del crimine, da altri già sorpassate, senza che costoro, molti dei quali noti notori o famosi, siano sottoposti a tali critiche dai nostri sensibili concittadini.

Le cronache giudiziarie, le analisi della Corte dei Conti dovrebbero darci giusti punti di vista per cogliere i fatti in prospettiva.

Da decenni l’università italiana e’ sottoposta a riforme gattopardesche, che, e’ vero, sono state abilmente sfruttate da qualcuno (preside o rettore o direttore o semplice docente, poco importa). Ma questo forse inficia la scuola in quanto istituzione? nella sua funzione sociale?

1 – si dice di voler rilanciare l’Università pubblica, ma le vengono tagliati i fondi (la riduzione totale dei fondi destinati all’Università, anche a fronte del parziale reintegro predisposto nella Legge di Stabilità 2011, ammonta a 280 milioni di euro per il 2010 e a ulteriori 300 milioni per il 2011);
2 – si dice di voler premiare le Università meritevoli, ma in due anni e mezzo di gestione Gelmini non si è avviata nessuna attività di valutazione della produzione scientifica degli atenei e al merito, nel 2009, è stata attribuita una quota inferiore al 10% dei fondi di finanziamento ordinario sulla base di valutazioni risalenti al 2003;
3 – si dice di voler tutelare gli studenti, ma si prevedono per gli atenei pubblici tagli che li costringeranno ad aumentare le tasse universitarie;
4 – si dice di voler premiare la meritocrazia, ma si tagliano i fondi integrativi statali per il diritto allo studio degli studenti meritevoli, portandoli da 246 milioni nel 2009 a soli 100 milioni di euro per il 2010 e a 125 milioni di euro -previsti- per il 2011;
5 – si dice di voler premiare i giovani, ma se ne ostacola l?ingresso alle carriere accademiche allungandone il precariato e si mortificano le prospettive di carriera dei ricercatori di ruolo;
6 – si dice di voler combattere lo strapotere dei “baroni” universitari, ma si accentra il potere nelle mani di pochi, eliminando la collegialità negli organi decisionali.

15th November, the newspaper Die STANDARD arranged the round table ‘Sool Kunst in den Bunker‘ (link to video & info) to discuss about the idea of Peter Noever (Director of MAC-The Museum of Contemporary Art in Vienna) to transform one of the several Flak Towers still stending in the city into the Museum of the XXIst Century Art. The idea of and ‘Artists’ in residence programme’ is the trategy to gain the foremost contemporary museum, and the same tower transformation, with the wish to have realized an idea proposal by James Turrell (one the most distinguished contemporary US artists in the world scene), would be witness of the MAK desires to have in Vienna one of the most exlcusive and avanguardistic Art program in Europe.

On Monday 08 NOV at h. 9:30 students will present their own book-draft (download the template) in a PDF format with:
- all the first part (cover, service pages, etc. > see the opening pages of IFW2010 book)
- the index (even now will be almost empty)
- the abstract and the paper you selected
- 4 or 5 images as example about the work you think is matching the requests of the course (read the info written in previouse posts)
> remember that for each images there is the need of a capition (150 words max long) explaining why the images presented is connected with the word/paper you selected.
