Every now and then it seems possible to decipher a new pattern in work already accomplished: a pattern thrown into a relief by present concerns. These fresh insights lance through the body of work, showing, as it were, another grain; enabling us not only to take fresh pleasure in what we have done – but more importantly- to draw the necessary from our corpus of work in order to proceed. This reconsidering of a body of work is not unlike a prism, this way and that, so that catching the light differently, we see fresh colors.

Robin Hood Gardens (London) from Herr Thomas on Vimeo.

Rotten Utopia is a film concerning Robin Hood Gardens and its residents. Robin Hood Gardens is a 1970s brutalist social housing estate in East London. A campaign was mounted in 2008, by the architectural press, to list Robin Hood Gardens. This was to save the building from the council’s plan to knock it down. The estate is it is on valuable land that would be perfect for redevelopment as it is located close to Canary Wharf and the Olympic Park.
