Stazione Agip got listed
February 21st, 2014We just found out that the Stazione di Servizio Agip, the beloved building topic of our 2012 Design Lab, has been officially listed. According to the public authorities – namely the Ministero dei beni e delle attività culturali e del turismo – the building is “of particularly outstanding historical and artistic interest” and will be now subject to safeguard. The official document stating this important judgement features a short bibliography that includes our Lab-int-2012 as a reference.
It goes without saying that we consider this a huge achievenment for the commitment played out by our students in that project.
The Next Monument, Amsterdam
February 12th, 2014Are monuments only records of recorded histories? How can they act as a prompts for on-going reflection? Could a traditional monument be the starting point for individual commemoration? Does a memorial have to be fashioned out of bronze or marble to make a significant impression on our psyche? Venice was immersed in the water – as it happens in this season – and all transfers required much more time and a lot of patience, but for sure giving to all of us the precise feeling that this is a city like no one else in the world.
Giornata della Memoria 2014
January 26th, 2014Mirjam Ohringer – Widerstand gegen die Nationalsozialisten in NL

Museum in an age of migrations, Oslo KHM
December 22nd, 2013Museum in an age of migrations, Oslo KHM by Rachele Albini (POLIMI December 2013)
The world we live in it’s becoming everyday more a world of ‘others’ rather than a world of ‘self’. Students, workers, professionals and tourists are the new nomads, protagonists of a dynamism now more intense than in the past and which interests all kind of spheres: from the economical to the demographical one, from the political to the cultural one. This phenomenon, increased by Internet and globalization, is being responsible of a change in our way to perceive the history, art and the idea of nationality.

Redefining Landscapes
Shrinking Montevideo
December 16th, 2013Shrinking Montevideo by Isabella Forestieri (POLIMI December 2013)
More than fifty percent of the world’s population now lives in cities, and the figure is expected to increase in the next two decades. However, the common assumption that the global increase in urbanization means that all cities are growing, is false: in every part of the world many cities are actually shrinking. As the city is “context par excellence” where man lives and acts, delineate the trajectories, the phenomena and processes that trigger in these living organisms, which are the cities, it is essential to understand the anthropology of contemporary life, its its unfolding, and to be able to act consequently to improve the liveability the unity and the equity of its inhabitants.
