NUS – New Urban Scapes

from design to curatorial practice

Spring Semester 2013 at POLIMI

NUS – project will be active in Milan, italy, in 2013, focusing on concrete urban issues.

NUS will develop material or immaterial design solutions (systemic and diffuse or site specific, crossing the different scales) dealing with everyday living needs of the people, and considering the many aspects that contribute to the habitability of the city.

We would like NUS developing projects that are the core for quick and effective Diploma work. We would like as well to find people that share this approach: enrollement open for the Spring Seemester 2013 at POLIMI.

It has been a very long weekend for our Design Studio. An open exhibition with a lot of visitors, lot of talks, quite few drinks… We’ll probably get soon a full coverage of the event (professional photographss and videos) but for the time being here’s a little slideshow of the exhibition’s set up.

Per celebrare la mostra che inaugura Sabato alla Ex Stazione di Servizio Agip ed in attesa di pubblicare il book completo dei lavori di questo semestre, presentiamo un primo progetto del laboratorio.

Si chiama Officina Impossibile ed i suoi autori sono Lorenzo Manca Liaci e Ludovica Niero.

Siamo lieti di presentare ‘on the road‘, una mostra promossa e sostenuta da eni e dal Politecnico di Milano.

A 60 anni dalla sua costruzione e dopo un lungo periodo d’inattività, la Ex Stazione Agip – progettata dall’Arch. Mario Bacciocchi – riapre per ospitare i lavori degli studenti del nostro Laboratorio di Architettura degli Interni.
I progetti, esposti su dei lunghi tavoli all’interno del grande spazio vuoto del piano terra, raccontano alcune possibili strategie per il riuso di questo edificio, patrimonio di eni e della Città di Milano.

In recent decades the dissemination and accentuationof the perception of disaster have fueled insecurity and collective fear by encouraging the development of technicist rhetoric, that uses engineering as linear solution to the issues.

Above a certain line of speed and employment of information, a disaster takes such a social and cultural significance that technical knowledge and economies are forced to reorganize themselves exclusively within its logic. The work undergone by students deal with the refurbishment of a dismissed Milanese petrol station that was designed and built in the beginning of the 50?s by Mario Bacciocchi. The building represents a very precious heritage for the city and for its owner, Eni S.p.A. As we started to research about the history of the building, and the company, we realized how intriguing this project might become if all the issues around it will be taken into account…

The deadline is July the 15th

You will find in attachment the poster concerning the call for the next Intensive Erasmus Workshop on “structural Architectures: Geometry Code and Design”, containing all the useful information you need at the moment for the selection. Interested students have to send via e-mail the following materials, by July 15th 2012, to: luigi.cocchiarella@polimi.it:

1_letter of motivation (in English, maximum 2.000 typefaces long)
2_transcript of forme courses

After July 11th a date for short inerviews will be fixed, in order to select the 8 students who will participate in the workshop.

The project developed the past year are published on-line and available at: summerschool-milano2011 (see there “erasmus intensive program milano 2011”).

il Laboratorio di Cooperazione Internazionale del DiAP del Politecnico di Milano organizza un Workshop Internazionale RECIFE CALLS MILANO sul tema della pianificazione degli spazi verdi periurbani a Recife, che si terrà a Milano nella settimana tra il 19 al 24 novembre 2012.
Questo workshop è il primo di una serie che vedrà coinvolte altre realtà (per ora Cairo e Salvador de Bahia).
