CO-LIVING COMMUNITIES

CO-LIVING COMMUNITIES
Designing the relationship of collectivity and individuality
[by Katarina Mišovic, 2023]

This research draws its inspiration from investigations conducted at the Architecture and Urban Studies department of Politecnico di Milano. It focuses on transformative trends in dwelling practices and the demand for new spatial solutions within the modern housing landscape of Italy. Focusing on diverse households within an urban context like Milan, it becomes evident that traditional housing typologies inherited from the past fail to adequately address the complexities of contemporary living arrangements. To address these challenges, this thesis adopts a “bottom-up” design approach that considers the unique requirements of dwellers, leveraging the existing urban fabric of Milan. The chosen site is a former abandoned building owned by the Chamber of Commerce in the central area of Milan, offering an opportunity for adaptive reuse and revitalization into a residential complex.
