UH[u]AH! – From Unconventional Households to Unconventional Affordable Housing
[Proff. Gennaro Postiglione, Paola Briata, academic year 2021-2022]
Over the past decades, socio-demographic changes have deeply transformed household composition and the very notion of “family.” The rise in single people, divorced parents, elderly individuals, and various forms of cohabitation reflects more diverse living arrangements. Labour market instability often forces people to divide their lives between multiple dwellings, while economic recession has reduced housing affordability, limiting access even for middle-income groups. These dynamics challenge the modernist concept of “home” and twentieth-century welfare housing models, calling for a fundamental rethinking of family, residence, and homelessness.
