AH 2019 – Affordable Housing: Domesticity Reload
Form, Uses, Spaces, Practices and Policy for Contemporary Dwelling
[Final Academic Studio, Proff. Massimo Bricocoli, Gennaro Postiglione, Stefania Sabatine; academic year 2019-2020]
Major European and global cities face challenges related to population growth, land scarcity, and rising real estate costs, which increasingly hinder access to decent housing, especially for vulnerable groups. Growing housing prices force many people to choose between unaffordable rents and long daily commutes. The lecture series aims to highlight the need to expand the supply of affordable housing while ensuring high architectural and urban quality. Vienna stands out as a significant model, thanks to its innovative social housing policies, notably through the IBA Neues Soziales Wohnen 2016-2020 program, which placed innovation and urban integration at the center of housing strategies.
