REREADING SILO
Una nuova socialità nel parco dell’ex Ospedale Militare Lorenzo Bonomo di Bari
[by Nastaran Eidani Asl, 2018]
Much of contemporary architectural work involves the remodeling of existing buildings, presenting structural, aesthetic, environmental, contextual, and programmatic challenges. Rereadings examines the relationship between original buildings and their interventions, extracting theoretical approaches as strategic lessons. The project area is Odderøya, near the Kvadraturen city centre of Kristiansand, Vest-Agder county, Norway. Nicolai Tangen’s 20th century art collection, one of the largest in private Norwegian ownership, will be brought to Kvadraturen through a foundation, on condition that the city provides suitable premises. The heritage silo at Odderøya was proposed as a new joint museum for the Tangen Collection and Sørlandets Kunstmuseum. Odderøya, with a long military history until 1999, now functions as a recreational and cultural area with monuments, forests, beaches, and accessible paths. Silo Quay is a major urban development adjacent to the city centre.
